What is ADAS?

ADAS stands for advanced driver assistance systems.

ADAS systems are an electronic set of safety systems and aids designed to help reduce collisions by improving how well and how quickly a driver can react to hazards. In turn this can minimise injuries.

ADAS systems utilise a mix of cameras, radar and ultrasound to survey the car’s surroundings in order to prevent car accidents, functions that assists drivers but does not replace them.

Why might my ADAS need recalibrating?

In ADAS equipped vehicles, many of the ADAS sensors that form part of driver assistance systems are located just behind the windscreen, therefore any slight knock or damage to your car may cause the ADAS system to malfunction.
Manufacturers deem it essential for ADAS systems to be recalibrated under the following circumstances:

• After carrying out any repair to any ADAS systems
• After carrying out repairs or making changes to
• vehicle suspension or ride height
• After windscreen replacement
• After removing bumpers or door mirrors with
• ADAS sensors fitted
• After having 4 wheel alignment
• After your vehicle has been in a collision

What is an MOT test?

The MOT test is designed to check that vehicles over three years old are roadworthy, properly maintained and meet minimum safety and environmental standards.

Why do I need an MOT?

If you have a vehicle that is three or more years old, you are legally required to put your car in for an annual MOT test at an approved MOT centre.

The MOT test will determine whether your vehicle is roadworthy or not.

Bike MOT

If your motorcycle is between three and 40 years old, it must be presented for an annual MOT test. The purpose of the MOT is to ensure that a motorbike is safe and roadworthy – and it’s the owner’s responsibility to have any serious defects put right.
A valid MOT certificate is a prerequisite for road tax and for insurance.
Just like a car, if your motorcycle or scooter is over three years old, it must undergo an annual motorbike MOT check.

If you don’t service your car, you’re more likely to see its performance deteriorate over time.
Regular servicing can also save you money in the long run, by spotting minor issues before they become a bigger problem.

How often should I service my car?

Most manufacturers recommend having a full car service once a year or every 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.
You can check your handbook to see when your car was last serviced. Some cars also have a system that lets you know when a service is due. Even if this appears before 12 months or every 12,000 miles, you shouldn’t ignore it.
